A lifetime of public service
A former US Navy warship captain and Pentagon strategist, Larry launched a second career helping citizens and political leaders strengthen their communities in our highly competitive and often violent world. He introduced new approaches to community building in a number of American cities including Seattle/King County, Columbus, Ohio, and Washington, DC.
First elected to the legislature four years ago, Larry invests his energies in improving fiscal management and protecting our economy, on reforming health care, overhauling the ferry system, creating a new energy future in our local communities, and taking care of our veterans and their families.
Deeply concerned about the state of our democracy, Larry has co-founded with various community leaders a series of informal citizens action groups. The “Plan C” ferry planning group evolved into the self-managed “Ferry Community Partnership” which continues to provide a broad-based critique of the ferry system. The “Vitamin E(ducation)” group has been developing creative approaches to improving education outcomes through supporting teaching team professional self-improvement and to fully funding our education system. Now forming is a new group which will tackle the biggest problem of all: what do we want our state government to do, how do we know it is doing those tasks well at lowest possible cost, and how do we overhaul our revenue system to assure that our state climbs steadily out of the deep economic hole caused by this severe recession?
