CITIZENS ELECT LARRY SEAQUIST

DEMS SWEEP 26TH DISTRICT! In Tuesday's election, Washington's 26th Legislative District voters selected three Democrats to represent them in Olympia. Larry Seaquist and Pat Lantz will be teaming up in the State House, while Derek Kilmer becomes the first Democrat in 16 years to represent the district in the State Senate. All three Democratic candidates won their races handily in a district that has long been fertile Republican territory, which includes relatively affluent Gig Harbor as well as Port Orchard and Bremerton, two towns with a heavy military presence. Aided by the strong tailwind of national disenchantment with the policies of George W. Bush and a rubber-stamping Congress, the three 26th District Democrats were elected by a broad coalition of local citizens who have decided that change is in order in both Washington D.C. and Olympia. District voters also contributed to the victories of Democrats Norm Dicks and Maria Cantwell, who will be returning to the U.S. House and Senate, respectively, next year. In his victory speech Tuesday night at an overflowing gathering of 26th District Democrats, Seaquist thanked all who worked on the campaign, and urged the crowd to not consider the election the accomplishment, but as a starting point and opportunity for the accomplishments to come in Olympia as a solid team of Democrats, for a change, take on the issues of importance to the district and state. Seaquist mentioned education, good job creation, health care, transportation, and protecting the environment as the leading issues he plans on tackling as a newly-minted state legislator for the State of Washington. Victory! Your hard work is paying off. As the ballots are counted it is clear that the Citizens of the 26th District chose Larrry Seaquist to be their next State Representative.
As it stands: Please keep checking here for the final results and THANK YOU for your hard work and support! EXPERIENCED, STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Former commanding officer of Battleship IOWA, a veteran of 32 years service in the U.S. Navy, and fresh from a decade of creating new strategies for community building, Larry will serve all the citizens of the 26th District.
GOOD GOVERNMENT URGENT CHALLENGES
If we are to thrive in the competitive world of the 21st Century we must leave no citizens on the sidelines. We must solve the health care crisis that is crushing our businesses and bankrupting our families. We must create new industries and wean ourselves from imported oil. We can do it - but we need to restore that classic American "can do together" spirit. We need leaders dedicated to good government, not extremist politicians playing gotcha games.

Tacoma News Tribune Seaquist, on the other hand, would be a prize catch. He is the former captain of the battleship USS Iowa, worked in the Pentagon and the office of the secretary of defese and went on to serve as a senior adviser to the director-general of UNESCO, where he led peacebuilding efforts. Raised in Oregon and Idaho, he moved to Gig Harbor four years ago. Note: The Tacoma News Tribune also endorses Pat Lantz for House Position 1, and Derek Kilmer for Senate in the 26th District.
Peninsula Gateway His challenger, Ron Boehme on the other hand, seems primarily interested in gaining a pulpit for his extreme religious views. Boehme is a fringe candidate who "believes" in ideas rather than reviewing and analyzing them. He has written that Satan "controls the schools," and that he is a prophet. He appears intractable in his positions. Boehme seems to be on a mission based on his personal beliefs rather than trying to represent the district, especially not the Gig Harbor area. With such a credible candidate as Seaquist, there's no reason to consider his challenger. Note: The Peninsula Gateway also endorses Pat Lantz for House Position 1, and Derek Kilmer for Senate in the 26th District.
Kitsap Sun Boehme has been a leader of Youth With a Mission for 32 years nationally and internationally. He champions conservative, faith-based views and says many agree with him, as evidenced by the best-seller success of commentator Bill O’Reilly’s new book. Seaquist, a retired Navy captain, is a self-employed writer/consultant/lecturer who has contributed articles to the Christian Science Monitor and appeared as a military expert on national television. He favors a secular approach, criticizes “hot-button” politics and says he detests O’Reilly and the “lunatic right.” Boehme likes the proposed NASCAR track and Initiative 933, wants to keep a 60 percent supermajority approval for school levies, and feels the state is adequately funding basic education. In all of the above, Seaquist’s views are the opposite — however, both candidates agree the public school system needs a major overhaul. Our editorial board is endorsing Seaquist. Although both candidates have had wide-ranging careers, we think Seaquist’s experiences better qualify him for the Legislature, and we also agree with his views on I-933 and ending the supermajority levy passage requirement. Note: The Kitsap Sun also endorses Pat Lantz for House Position 1, and Derek Kilmer for Senate in the 26th District.
Seattle Times Note: The Seattle Times also endorses Pat Lantz for House Position 1, and Derek Kilmer for Senate in the 26th District.
